My name is Rya, I’ve been piercing at Voodoo since about 2018, and tattooing since about 2020. My tattoo style is fairly American traditional black work, as well as finer lined stipple shaded floral pieces. I usually work in all black, but I’m not afraid to throw some color in. Im a bit unusual because I enjoy tattooing areas on the body most artists aren’t a fan of, such as: the hands, fingers, face, and neck. Although I love doing larger pieces, and traditional bangers.I do walk in tattoos and tattoos by appointment. To set up an appointment with me you have to come down to the shop so we can consult, and fill out deposit/appointment forms. Piercings I do on a walk in basis only, exceptions made for people that live out of town, and would need a set time that they know I would be available. A lot of piercings are anatomy based, so if I evaluate the area, and don’t think that you have the best anatomy for a certain piercing (which if gotten could result in a rejected piercing or bumps) then I will come up with other options that are better suited for your body. However, it is your body, so you are able to say that you want to go forward with the piercing, even if you don’t have the best anatomy for it.I love doing piercing curations. Meaning you come to me saying you want a certain amount of piercings in an area of your body, and I access, based off your anatomy, what I think would be best suited, and would result in the most ‘steel drip’. I feel that piercing curations are very creative process for both myself and the client.I don’t necessarily believe in the idea that a person will regret a tattoo later in life, because to me, tattoos are a time stamp in your life, that you can reminisce on down the road. I feel like tattoos are a personal collection of feelings and events that tell a story on a persons skin, whether all of the tattoos have deep meanings, or none at all. Nothing is permanent, we all die, so why not tell our story for the extremely short amount of time we’re on this earth.I typically get asked whether I enjoy tattoo or piercing more, and truthfully, they are very equal. I think both forms of body modification are very beautiful, and allow each person to express themselves. I think there is something so empowering, and gratifying as an artist when someone trusts me enough to permanently put my art on them, however the same goes for piercing. I take great pride in all of my work, and will always do what I can to ensure that the client is fully satisfied with the end result. I’m constantly seeking new knowledge and technique in both professions, so I can continue to learn and grow as an artist.
